Heart Safe/Bleed Safe Director

“We can not always prevent cardiac arrest or trauma from occurring; However, we will be prepared to improve the outcomes”

Our Mission

To increase survivability from trauma and cardiac arrest, through the development of a community based, integrated approach to managing trauma and cardiac arrest.

Pillars of Success

Prevention

“We would rather prevent trauma and cardiac arrest, than have to respond to and treat trauma and cardiac arrest.”

Preparedness

“We cannot always prevent trauma and cardiac arrest from happening; however, we will be prepared to improve outcomes when trauma and/or cardiac arrest does happen”

Response

“We will respond to trauma and cardiac arrest with the most effective and efficient response possible.

Our response will include the likes of the layperson, the first responder, and the first receiver.”

Recovery

“We will be committed to helping through the recovery and rebuilding process for victims, families of victims, and our community members in an effort to develop tangible resiliency within our cities.”

The Programs

Heart Safe

Sudden Cardiac Arrest is a leading cause of death.

Each year, over 350,000 people die from sudden cardiac arrest in the United States. Nearly 70% of all sudden cardiac arrest occur out-of-hospital. Despite tremendous advancements in emergency medicine, survival rates from out of hospital SCA remain unacceptably low (less than 10% survival rate). The Chino Valley (CA) seeks to develop a HeartSafe community, in an effort to take a community based, integrated approach to managing SCA.

Developed in 2002, HeartSafe Communities are an international program designed to promote survival from sudden out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.

It is a general concept focused upon strengthening the “chain of survival” as described by the American Heart Association; it recognizes and stimulates efforts by individual communities to improve their system for preventing sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) from becoming irreversible death.

Bleed Safe

Trauma is a leading cause of death.

The prevalence of Active Shooter/Hostile Event Response (ASHER) continues to dramatically increase.  The concept of developing a “Bleeding Safe (or BleedSafe) community” originated from the Hartford Consensus IV: A Call for Increased National Resilience (https://www.bleedingcontrol.org/about-bc/hartford-consensus).

In 2017, The Chino Valley Fire District developed the first Bleed Safe Community Program of its kind. The BleedSafe Community program seeks to increase survival from trauma by assisting in the development of a community based, integrated approach to managing trauma. The program allows communities to evaluate their current state of readiness, and establish goals to help create a tangibly safer community in response to trauma. By earning “pressure points” toward the designation, your team can strengthen your community in places that people live, work, and play. “Pressure Point” criteria are based on the programs four foundational pillars: Prevention, Preparedness, Response, and Recovery from trauma.

Although primarily focused on developing more ready and resilient communities from trauma related to Active Shooter/Hostile Event Response, the concepts and principals of the program translate to all types of trauma, by emphasizing the need to strengthen each link within the trauma chain of survival.

Believe with Us

The AED/Trauma Kit program is funded through community donation.

100% of the proceeds go back into the community in the form of AED’s and Trauma Kits, donated to local establishments within the Chino Valley.

To date, just over $100,000 has been raised through donations and fundraising. Donations of any amount can help make a tangible difference within our community.
